For her last 25 years as a professional folksinger, Alix Dobkin’s songs, albums, concerts, lectures and presentations have focused on women in general & lesbians in particular, frequently inspiring thought-provoking controversy. Alix will join us to share her music and read from her memoir, MY RED BLOOD: A Memoir of Growing Up Communist, Coming Onto the Greenwich Village Folk Scene, and Coming Out in the Feminist Movement., in which she chronicles her rise to fame by recordinng the first openingly lesbian album in 1973. Rich in period detail, storytelling, and outspoken politics, My Red Blood is essential reading for lovers of music and history. Dobkin will read and discuss book passages at Saturday's concert.
